It’s a MAHA Morning
On Saturday’s show we’ll be welcomed in-studio by the founders and organizers of the MAHA Music Festival. Not only will we preview the acts coming to town on Saturday, August 13, but we’ll also discuss MAHA’s plans on a new venue following this season’s floods.

We Live in Omaha
Tune in Saturday morning at 10 when we sit down with the fancy pants behind What Cheer, a website design and development studio based in Omaha’s Mastercraft building on North 13th Street.
What Cheer’s slogan, “We Make Fancy Websites,” is evident in all of their projects big and small, including I live in Omaha.
We’ll learn more about their work and the origin of their cute and clever name.
And remember! The Weekly Grind can be found on Facebook and Twitter. (Aren’t we cool?)
Ice Cream for Breakfast?
It’s Memorial Day weekend; so why not?
Abby Jordan of Dundee ice cream shop eCreamery is our in-studio guest this morning. Abby will tell us the story behind eCreamery, their nationwide reach, national media exposure, and of course, how so many of their tasty flavors come to be.

Tour de Cure Preview, Lucky Bucket Thank You
To our countless loyal listeners, Twitter followers, and Facebook friends, thank you for paying us a visit at the Lucky Bucket Brewery Thursday night in La Vista. What a great turnout! We take to the AM airwaves every Saturday morning to tell the stories of Omaha’s young professionals, and your support will allow that to continue. Thank you!
On today’s show we’ll welcome Kourtney DeFreece and Shawn Murphy of the American Diabetes Association (@ADANebraskaSD on Twitter and their home on Facebook), who will give us an overview of who their nonprofit serves and what important events are on their calendar. One of those events is the 2011 Tour de Cure cycling event, happening Sunday, May 22, at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds. They will also preview the Father of the Year awards gala, happening June 16.
And if Mike and Bryan are willing (read: gently coerced), we’ll also recap yesterday’s Royal Wedding. (Confession: I still have goosebumps!)
All that and more is on deck for The Weekly Grind. Join us at 10 a.m. CST on KOIL 1180 AM, or listen online.
There has to be a better headline.
Off-topic from the Young Professional-y radio posts you see around these parts, but I had to throw this up somewhere.
See the following screen shot from Sports Illustrated’s home page this morning:
The headline reads “Football Losing Fans?”
Now read the excerpt of the story they were referring to:
Tragedy has a way of placing sports in perspective. It feels so meaningless now. The draft, the games, the trophies, the bragging rights … they’re all diversions from our everyday lives until real life wreaks unimaginable devastation on far, far too many people. Your heart aches for those impacted by Wednesday’s tornadoes in Alabama. The accounts keep pouring in of death and destruction. Loved ones are missing. Photos and names get posted on TV and web sites as family members desperately search for them. They’re the kinds of pleas we’re used to seeing elsewhere, not here. This is our 9/11. This is our Katrina. We will get through this — slowly, eventually, together. But it’s brutal to watch, from Cullman to Tuscaloosa, from Pleasant Grove to Pratt City, and from so many other areas, some of which we might not fully know about yet.
I am *fairly* confident the angle of this story was not about college football “losing fans.” Pretty awful wording, SI.
It’s Lucky Bucket Week! It’s Lucky Bucket Week!

Every couple of months, we’re blessed to have the fine folks from Lucky Bucket Brewery and Solas Distillery join us for an hour of AM-radio magic. It goes a little something like this:
1. Show starts at 10:00 am.
2. Zac from Lucky Bucket brings beer into studio at 10:05
3. We drink beer
4. Zac talks about all the awesome stuff going on at Lucky Bucket
5. We drink more beer
6. The show sadly ends
7. We go home and nap
Pretty much the same will go this Saturday. And we’re going to touch on a couple hot topics…like why Lucky Bucket isn’t in the new Werner Park.
We’ll also be previewing two upcoming events:
1. The Final Thursday Tour Throwdown – It’s sad, but Lucky Bucket will no longer be giving tours on Thursdays after May 1. So, we’re going to throw a bash for their Last Thursday tour event. Stay tuned for details.
2. The Inaugural Lucky Bucket Run – A 7k running event, May 14. Yes, there will be beer.
Be sure to tune in!!!!!!!
That was way too many explanation points. Sorry.
A prelude to Big Omaha.
You want more info on one of Omaha’s landmark events? Well here it is. Gift wrapped in our interview with Jeff Slobotski. We also chatted a little about Silicon Prairie News and why everything Jeff and crew are doing is great for Omaha.
